Botox is a muscle relaxant agent used to reduce and eliminate facial lines and wrinkles. Facial lines and wrinkles are caused by repetitive facial expressions, such as grimacing, squinting and smiling. These repetitive movements cause our faces to repeatedly contract; as we age, the elasticity in our skin decreases. This results in lines and wrinkles appearing on our faces, even at rest. For both men and women, the typical areas where lines and wrinkles appear first are worry lines across the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.

Botox is used to temporarily relax the facial muscles responsible for these repetitive contractions. Botox reduces the activity in the muscles, which prevents the skin from wrinkling and creasing. Botox – What is a Neurotoxin

Botox is a neurotoxin that is injected directly into a muscle to temporarily weaken movement of that muscle. In aesthetics, we use neurotoxins cosmetically in facial muscles to prevent lines from forming on the skin above, around, or near the muscle.

Neurotoxin is a purified protein that blocks receptors in your muscle. This block prevents your muscle from moving or contracting. After a treatment, it can take up to 3-4 days before you start to see any onset of result. It can take up to 2 weeks for the treatment to fully take effect. On average, a treatment will last 3-4 months. Most patients will have their neurotoxin treatment 3-4 times per year.
